Restore Hope Latimer – Nativity Light Trail
On Tuesday, 12th November, the Beyond Finance team enjoyed a rewarding day of volunteering at Restore Hope Latimer. It was a joy for us to return for our second visit and on this occasion, we helped create the Nativity Light Trail, which will welcome visitors and local families this December.
We were blessed with beautiful weather—no rain in sight! This allowed us to fully embrace the outdoor tasks and immerse ourselves in the experience.
One group started the day by hanging lights at the trail’s entrance, crafting a magical and inviting opening. Meanwhile, another group began spreading woodchip along the walkway. This added not only to safety, but also a lovely finishing touch. A little friendly competition soon arose as everyone strove to perfect their section—it turns out the team has a keen eye for detail!
At the same time, another group tackled the heavy work of positioning logs to define the path. Piece by piece, the trail began to take shape.
Later, we moved on to sawing branches and climbing ladders—activities far removed from our usual routines! These challenges gave us the chance to bond as a team and contribute to something meaningful. Once the branches were cleared and the sawdust dusted off, we completed the trail by wrapping lights around the trees and pathway, bringing the vision to life.
Throughout the day, we enjoyed well-deserved tea and coffee breaks, complemented by delicious brownies and cakes. To top it off, Andy treated us to some carrot cake at the end of the day—a perfect conclusion to our efforts!
A highlight of the day was hearing from Nate, Restore Hope’s Chief Executive and the Restore Hope team about their inspiring work and the impactful projects they manage with such a small but dedicated group.
By the day’s end, the trail had come together beautifully and we were all proud of what we had accomplished. It was incredibly fulfilling to know that our efforts will soon bring joy to the local community.
