We recently shared the exciting news that on 14–15 May 2026, we’ll be hosting a charity fundraising event at Windmill Farm, home of Beyond Finance.
We’re aiming to raise £40,000 to restore mobility, dignity and hope through life-changing orthopaedic surgeries at Dreamland Mission Hospital in Kimilili, Kenya.
Every donation will be doubled through match-funding!
Why is this project important?
Dreamland Mission Hospital serves a rural community, where many simply cannot afford life-transforming orthopaedic surgery.
When a broken limb requires metalwork, costing £600–£900, patients are often sadly left to live with a disability or face amputation. The hospital has the facilities to carry out the procedures; however, they need the funds to purchase the metalwork and cover the cost of surgery.
What is the event?
We would love you to join us for this big community fundraiser as we aim to complete 1,000 laps over two days!
This is an event for everyone: clients, supporters, friends, families and the local community.
You may choose to:
Enjoy a gentle and scenic walk around the shorter lap of Windmill Farm
Challenge yourself to the longer 6.7km route taking in some local trails
Join friends for a sociable stroll
Drop in for tea, cake and conversation.
There’ll be a tea & cake station, as well as a MedAid tent where you can learn more about the life-changing surgeries. Whilst this is all going on, there will be a small group of experienced runners, including Andy Hounsell, taking on a 24-hour ‘Backyard Ultra’ inspired challenge, running a 6.7km lap on the hour, every hour and they will no doubt appreciate your encouragement.
A personal message from Andy as he prepares for the challenge
Some people have said I’m crazy to have the ambition to run 100 miles in 24 hours, the equivalent of nearly four marathons. It is a mammoth challenge, but I’m deeply motivated by the prospect of the whole fundraising event, and here is why.
In a fragile and broken world, I want to do what I can to make a difference. Over the years being part of Beyond Finance, many of you will know and have seen that I have enjoyed testing myself physically, whether through 24 hour cycling events, marathons, or running challenges at places like Dorney Lake. Through this community challenge, I want to bring hope and practical change to people who are suffering.
Some things, I have come to learn, simply cannot be fixed, and that brings huge frustration and disappointment. A deeply personal example is my daughter’s health. Over the past eight years, despite speaking to health professionals and searching for answers, there have been none. Through it all, we have had to keep trusting and believing in God for her future. In the midst of that, I have felt a growing desire to make a difference where things can be changed, and to put my energy into helping bring about tangible good.
That is why I am so passionate about the orthopaedic fundraising project for Dreamland Mission Hospital. I love the whole ethos of what they do. We have been supporting them for over a decade, and their reporting is superb, clearly evidencing the tangible difference being made to so many lives. Every penny given genuinely changes lives. It is a joy to have found this organisation and to partner with them in their work. I am also really looking forward to visiting Dreamland Hospital for the first time in July, to see first-hand what we have collectively helped them achieve.
There is now just under three weeks until the event. I need to taper the volume of training to give my body the best possible chance of holding up over the full 24-hour period. I have taken the preparation for this challenge more seriously than ever before. I am mindful of the strain it will place on my joints and swelling in my ankles that will inevitably come. Over the past month or so, I have been doing weekly Monday marathons before work! One of those runs was 52km at 2:41 in the morning, helping me prepare for the physical and mental challenge of running long distances through the night on tired legs.
In summary, by putting my body through this 24-hour challenge, I hope together we can unlock funding for orthopaedic surgeries that will save and transform 100 lives. I would love to see you there at some point during the event on 14–15 May. And if you are looking for an opportunity to dig deep and give generously, this is a truly worthwhile one. Thank you so much to those who have already donated, and to those planning to do so. Together, we really can make a difference!
